A had fever just a couple of days back. He was still woozy from all the meds and his running nose positively irritated him. Honestly, I was ready for a tough session.
But that did not stop him from being the star of his own first birthday photoshoot. I have never seen a child this patient and considerate during a shoot. Most one year olds would have called it quits within minutes, but not A.
A turned one about two weeks back and his parents wanted to capture this big milestone through a candid and lifestyle oriented photoshoot rather than a stiff, posed one. This is something more and more parents are asking for these days, a first birthday photoshoot that actually feels real and not staged.
The family was completely natural in front of the camera and all I had to do was spend a few hours with them at their home in Noida to get these beautiful images. This is exactly why I love indoor kids photography at home. There is no pressure of a studio setup, no unfamiliar backdrop and the child gets to be in a space they are already comfortable in. It also makes it easier to capture genuine sibling moments, since the kids are simply playing the way they normally do.
If you are planning a turning one photoshoot for your child, my honest suggestion is to keep it relaxed. Whether the session is indoor or outdoor, let your child move around freely and do not worry too much about getting picture perfect poses. The best first birthday photos usually come from the in between, unplanned moments.
