A foggy winter morning slowly gave way to a soft, sepia toned sky by mid morning, and it turned out to be the perfect time for a quick candid photoshoot of 10 month old Sam at Lodhi Garden.
Sam turned out to be a natural in front of the camera. He was completely intrigued by his soft play mat, picking at it and exploring every corner, and every now and then he would look straight into my camera like he already knew what it was for. His elder sister simply dotes on him and could not stop hovering around, sneaking in kisses and cuddles whenever she got the chance. Moments like these are exactly what make an outdoor baby photoshoot so special, since you cannot plan or direct that kind of sibling affection. It just happens.
This is what I love most about outdoor candid photography for babies. There is no pressure to get the perfect pose. You simply follow the baby's mood, use the natural light around you and let the real moments unfold on their own. Lodhi Garden works beautifully for this kind of session, with its open lawns and soft winter light making it one of the best outdoor locations for a baby photoshoot in Delhi.
While Delhi and Gurgaon have open and easily accessible green spaces for outdoor family photoshoots, Bangalore is a bit different. Green spaces here are mostly limited to apartment complexes and their manicured lawns. However Bangalore makes up for it with its lakes, which work beautifully as outdoor photoshoot locations. Hi, I'm Shambhavi Kartik, a photographer and mom based in Bangalore. I specialise in newborn photography, infant photoshoots, kids lifestyle photography and candid family sessions and I have been doing this since 2016.
Being a mother myself changed the way I photograph children. I know what it feels like to want to hold onto every little phase before it passes and that perspective shapes every session I shoot.
My approach leans towards lifestyle photography and unposed natural sessions. Children are at their best in familiar spaces where their true personalities get to shine, so I let the session move at their pace rather than forcing a pose or a plan. Many of my sessions are done at home or in the everyday spaces families already know and love.
I also love involving parents, siblings and grandparents in these sessions. Family stories are built through connection, warmth and the small moments shared across generations and those are exactly the moments I try to capture through candid family photoshoots.
