I'm Shambhavi Kartik, I've been photographing family events for over 10 years. I work with families in Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, covering everything from housewarming ceremonies to other important family milestones.
Family events usually happen fast and don't last long. That's what makes them fun to shoot, I have to stay alert from the very first moment and get good photos within a short window of time. I try to keep things simple. Instead of pausing the event to set up every single shot, I stay close to what's actually happening around me.
There's a lot going on at once, rituals, guests, food, conversations. I try to catch the small, real moments happening alongside the bigger ones, so that even with everything moving quickly, the photos still feel personal to your family.
Whether the event is indoors or outdoors, my goal is the same: capture the day as it really happened. From a griha pravesham to a half-saree ceremony, a seemantham (baby shower) to an ayushya homam, I shoot each event based on what feels right for your family.
Most families want more than just formal, posed pictures from a big day. They want photos that hold onto how the day actually felt, the rituals, the laughter, the small moments shared between family members. As a documentary-style photographer, I cover many traditional Hindu ceremonies, including seemantham, namkaran, mundan, ayushya homam, griha pravesham, shashtiabdhapoorthi, sadhabhishekam, half-saree functions, Annaprashan and rice ceremonies, and other family milestones.
