Tamil-Punjabi Wedding Photography in Gurgaon: A North Meets South Celebration
Earlier this year, I photographed R & L's Tamil-Punjabi wedding in Gurgaon. It was a winter wedding and I shot it for a colleague's company, Our Wedding Chapter.
This was a classic North meets South wedding and it was lovely to see two very different cultures come together in one celebration. Both families were happy and involved and you could see it in every part of the day.
I started with the bride and groom getting ready and got some lovely portraits of both of them before the day began. Then came the baraat, which was full of energy. The groom was dancing with his relatives and friends and nobody was holding back. As a wedding photographer in Delhi NCR, I always enjoy baraats like this, where everyone is having fun and I get to photograph real laughter.
I also spent time getting candid shots of the family members. Elders, cousins and friends were all part of the day, and some of my favourite frames are of people simply talking, laughing and enjoying themselves.
The pheras were the main moment of the wedding. Both families gathered close to watch and I photographed the rituals as they happened without interrupting them. In a cross-cultural wedding, every ritual is worth noticing, so I stayed alert throughout. The day ended with the reception, where I got some lovely pictures of the couple and their guests.
I love shooting Tamil-Punjabi weddings and other cross-cultural weddings across Delhi NCR, Gurugram and Bangalore. There are more customs to follow and more moments to catch and I try to photograph the wedding the way it really felt.
Bangalore is home now and I am looking to work with more couples here, covering weddings with the same candid, documentary approach. I continue to cover weddings in Delhi NCR and Gurugram as well.
