Candid Moments from a Marathi-Jain Wedding
This Marathi-Jain wedding at Nehru Place was a lovely mix of two very different traditions coming together.
The day started with the groom getting ready, calm and composed before all the rituals began. Around him, his friends and relatives were already in full form and by the time the baraat set off, everyone was dancing away, genuinely enjoying every bit of it. I always find these moments fun to shoot, the ones where nobody's posing and people are just caught up in the celebration.
The bride's entry was one of the most beautiful parts of the day, walking in under a flower canopy while the groom and his family stepped forward to welcome her with a hand. It's a small gesture, but it says so much and I made sure I didn't miss it.
What followed was a mix of rituals from both sides. The Marathi customs and the Jain traditions each got their own space through the day and that balance is something I always enjoy capturing as a documentary wedding photographer. The varmala session had its own energy, families cheering from both sides and the bride being blessed by the elder women of the family was a genuinely heartfelt moment to capture.
Then came the pheras, followed by the sindoordaan, both handled with so much care and emotion. In between the rituals, there were some lovely candid pictures of the couple and their families too, the kind of unposed moments that end up meaning the most later.
And honestly, the ring-finding ceremony stole the show. Everyone was laughing, teasing the couple and for a few minutes, the room was just full of happy faces. Moments like these are exactly why I enjoy shooting cross-cultural weddings across Delhi NCR, Gurugram and Bangalore. There's always more happening, more customs to follow and more people getting involved from both sides.
That's really what I aim for with every wedding I shoot, pictures that don't just show the day, but bring back the emotions and the moment itself, years down the line.
