Delhi NCR Punjabi Wedding: Candid Moments from Kaleeras to Vidai
Some weddings you shoot, and some weddings you feel. P & B's was the second kind.
The day started with bride getting ready and going through her pooja and rituals at home. This happens just before the wedding begins and I make sure to stay close throughout, without asking her to pose or do anything differently. That's the whole idea behind candid wedding photography. The kaleeras were fun to shoot, with a lot of teasing and laughing going on around her the whole time. I got some really nice frames during her getting ready session too, right before everyone else showed up and the day got going.
And things got lively fast. By the time the baraat arrived, the groom, his friends and relatives were all dancing with full energy. I've shot plenty of baraats as a wedding photographer in Delhi NCR and it's always the collective energy, the dancing, the noise, the excitement, that makes for the best frames.
One of my favourite bits from the whole day was bride's mother welcoming groom at the entrance. It's over quickly, but it's one of those small rituals that means a lot to the family and I make sure I'm ready with my camera the second it starts. As a documentary wedding photographer, these are exactly the moments I look out for.
The rest of the evening was a mix of formal portraits and easy family candids. Somewhere in between, I also got some great bride and groom portraits. Getting through the formal group photos and then catching the real laughs and chatter right after is one of my favourite parts of shooting a big fat Indian wedding.
Then came the vidai, a moment that's always full of emotion, no matter how many weddings I shoot.
